Wheelchair Swing for Finnley
Gaming for Donations
Our hockey players are having an unusual year, so we thought to put their recent gaming passion to good use. Many Halton Hills Minor Hockey U16MD players & friends will be gaming for 18 hours straight over the holiday season. They are gaming in order to raise funds for a wheelchair swing for Finnley.
Finnley is 4 years old. He is sweet and adorable, with a wicked sense of humour. He is the type of child that can always be met with giggles and a smile.
He has hypotonia, is globally developmentally delayed, and cannot walk or talk. He doesn’t let that stop him though. His determination is inspiring. He works hard with physiotherapists, speech therapists and occupational therapists to continue to develop his fine motor and gross motor skills. He is learning how to use both his wheelchair and gait pace walker so one day he can be more independent.
He loves to be silly and play, especially outdoors, like any typical 4 year old. He just might do so differently.
One of his favorite activities used to be going for walks to a park in our neighbourhood and happily laughing at the other children running around being silly while we would push him on the baby swings. He no longer fits in the baby swings and cannot use the big kid swings. This kind of challenge is something many parents of children with different needs and abilities face within their communities, and why inclusion within the community is so important.
