Planning it Out

We have many plans for the upcoming fall and holiday season! We can’t wait to share with everyone but we thought important to begin with an announcement of our 2nd annual gaming for a cause.
This year we would like to fundraise towards the cost of a service animal for a deserving family or individual.
Please reach out if you or your child would like to join our gaming cause. We are currently looking to see how many players may be interested. Our tentative date is Monday,December 27th for an 18 hour marathon

The 8 year anniversary of the passing of our son Jason

Today, July 19th is the 8 year anniversary of the passing of our son Jason.
As many of you know, I have chosen to honor Jason’s loss with a personal story of learning and love from our grief journey. As I reflected over this past week on what I may write, I knew that what was on mind mind was something that I have said so many times over the last 8 years.
In the very complicated grief of losing a child I often found myself explaining my recovery and desire to let the world know that I was okay. I frequently said that I wanted to live my life in a way that my younger son would not end up saying to his friends that “his mom was never the same after his brother passed away”. I understand the fear of how my grief could affect my younger son but the last time that I made this statement a voice inside me told me to stop it.
I knew what stop it meant. It was time to acknowledge what has happened since Jason’s passing, we needed to acknowledge that we are not the same since the beginning of our grief journey. Our experience and the decision to focus on inclusion through our I Have Resolve Foundation has given us the opportunity to learn so much.
As a parent of a child with special needs I always considered myself quite evolved on the subject of inclusion. I prided myself on being empathetic and someone who did not shy away from a difficult discussion or cause. My son was my world, and we cherished our precious time together. What I did not understand was that even with Jason, I was chasing normal. I was not even aware of what ablism meant, but I do now. Today, I see that I always worked for the idea of normal, we always wanted to fit in. I celebrated success in terms of standard ideas of achievement and did not focus on celebrating our differences.
Chasing success based on a notion of ranking ability began to sound ridiculous to us. Our foundation focus is on inclusion and celebrating each individual, slowly we learned what that really meant. True inclusion is a celebration of what we all bring forward. Belonging means to include everyone and their differences, but it additionally means to love those differences, and accept everyone as equal.
Our learning and personal growth is unlike that of the analogy of a butterfly. I would currently describe us more like a moth, awkwardly flying and going in circles, but we are flying and moving forward, towards our own unique path. We see beauty in all differences.
So, to sum up my original thought on what my younger son may say to the world when he turns 20. It would be with pride if I heard him say “my mom was NEVER the same after my brother passed away”.
With gratitude and profound love we remember our beautiful son Jason, as now we understand what it means to celebrate everyone.

Orange Ribbon Fundraiser

Raising funds

John has been out today placing ribbons.
If you live in the Georgetown area and would like a ribbon around a tree or garden at your home please send us an email or a PM. We are on Facebook and Instagram as well. We are raising funds for Indspire and Native Women’s Resource Centre of Toronto.
Indspire is an organization that helps Indigenous students in Canada complete their post-secondary education for a successful future.
The Native Women’s Resource Centre of Toronto (NWRCT) began when a dedicated group of Aboriginal women recognized the need for a gathering place in Toronto where Aboriginal women could share resources, support one another, and practice their traditional ways.
Donations of $5 are requested per ribbon wrapped on a tree, mailbox, lamppost, or garden of your choosing. Tax receipt provided for any donation over $20.

This nationwide recognized charity is geared toward creating awareness, providing; tools, materials and funds, and supporting other charities that are pushing forward towards the inclusion of those who suffer from physical, developmental and social challenges of all kinds!
There is not a person around you who hasn’t met, went to school with, or befriended somebody with a disability. Nor has anyone not taken notice of the lack of resources, activities and all around inclusion of these amazing individuals.
@ihaveresolvefoundation is currently supporting a local organization, @equineabilityniagara , that has put their best hoof forward towards bringing fun, excitement, confidence and passions for individuals who, otherwise, would not have the opportunity to ride horses and be hands on at the farm.
We are currently selling I Have Resolve’s coffee, to which portions of the proceeds go towards EquineAbility Niagara, helping them recruit, train, and license riding instructors so they can continue their mission “to offer a safe, welcoming environment with qualified and can passionate staff committed to fostering growth and achievement in people of all ages and abilities, through interaction with horses.” As well as their ongoing mission to provide inclusion therapy through their horses.
We currently are selling Jason’s Blend which is bold and sweet “with a hint of sarcasm” As well as Inclusion Infusion

We stand in solidarity

Red Shirt Day (of Action for Accessibility and Inclusion) is a day when people across Canada come together and wear red in schools, workplaces and spaces everywhere in order to create a visible display of solidarity: to show their support for persons and families who are living with disabilities, celebrate the achievements of people living with disabilities, and to pledge their commitment to help create a fully accessible and inclusive society that honors and values the contributions of people of all abilities in all aspects of life in Canada.

Red Shirt Day takes place on the Wednesday of National Accessibility Week each year. In 2021, Red Shirt Day will take place on Wednesday, June 2nd, and National Accessibility Week is from Sunday, May 30 to Saturday, June 5.
